Beyond a certain level of traffic, you should dedicate the entire street to transit, dead-end half of the crossing streets, build platforms capable of having 2-3 buses stop simultaneously and/or stagger them. Fundamentally, there is no way to do effective TSP in through gridded street layouts

This historical map of Cleveland Transit is interesting It distinguishes routes by service type, not vehicle type. This likely reflects the idea that a bus vs streetcar just didn't matter to riders that much. This is a transit system that moves you- that's the priority.
