I’m leaving KC in 15 minutes and you know what? I already want to come back. This is the first city I’ve spent more than 24 hours in that I think I would genuinely enjoy living in (besides Indy, obviously)

Really disappointed at everyone in KC for not putting this on the front page of all the travel guides.

Based on the evidence downtown, it’s clear that not long ago KC’s downtown was similar to the downtrodden downtown of St. Louis. If nothing else, KC offers a blueprint where downtown is an attractive place to live and work. Indy has brought the workers back, the residents need to follow.

When I say KC is eating Indy’s lunch on housing, this is what I mean. This is far beyond the plywood five over ones in Indy. We’ve got to get serious.

a few impressions now that I’ve spent more time in KC than I ever have in one go: KC seems significantly gayer than Indy, and is absolutely eating Indy’s lunch on building housing (and traffic calming) Absolutely gobsmacked since my last visit.

Finally made it up to the Riverfront, which has a gargantuan platform designed for game days at nearby CPKC Stadium. This section opened on May 18, and has a small new section of Private Right of Way.

Nelson-Atkins is damn good (and free!) Can’t believe this is my first time. You could easily spend a whole day in this neighborhood at free art museums.

The combined busway/tramway near Country Club Plaza is very well done too. Things you’d love to see more of in the US.

The short tram greenway part is very cool. The dedicated lane and mixed running sections have been a bit tenuous, but the supervisors seem like they’re aggressively pursuing illegal parkers.

Out to the bus stop: there’s plenty of seating if you like sitting on bike racks. The signs tell you to exit through Door A to get to the bus, but in reality you need to exit through E for the nearest crosswalk.

I promised myself to say something positive about the new airport before I left so here goes: there’s plenty of space, you get plenty of exercise, and at least they saved the mosaics from the old terminals.

My first time airside at MCI: what a whiff. No room for those picking others up to wait, and Concourse B is a much further walk from security than A. The RideKC bus only comes once an hour, and I missed it by 5 minutes despite United arriving 14 min early.

IND remains undefeated. Car to gate in 11 minutes at morning rush with a gate at the end of the concourse. TSA had 3 in line at Standard checkpoint and opened another one to cut the line down even more
