I wondered why American English speakers say aluminum instead of aluminium. The element was originally named "aluminum" in 1812 by Sir Humphrey Davy. In the UK (and elsewhere) the -ium suffix was preferred, to resemble elements such as sodium, potassium etc.. In the US the original spelling stuck.

Just to mention to people interested on #N64 stuff: Just get a SummerCart64. Just do that, it's the best flashcart hands down. It's open source, and for a much lower price you can basically get the same features as the Everdrive 64 X7 + proper 64DD support. And it's being updated all the time.

Someday I'll get an Analogue 3D and a SummerCart64 and that small Toshiba CRT I had as a kid. It'll be retro gaming heaven. 🦊

I'm sad to read Rebecca Heineman (Burger Becky) passed away. :/ Pioneer game designer and programmer. One of the founders of Interplay in 1983. She designed The Bard's Tale 3: Thief of Fate. In the 90s she created MacIntosh ports of games like Wolfenstein 3D, Baldur's Gate and the 3DO port of Doom.

"Fresh", sealed copies of Super Mario RPG actually have a unique title screen. This screen is lost permanently on that cartridge after playing and saving just once, and can not be restored without tinkering with the cartridge or waiting decades for the save battery to run out.

I just learned that a word from my regional German dialect entered the Turkish language. Crazy. The word Grumbier / Krumpir means groundberry = potato in our dialect. This became Kumpir in Turkish, a dish of oven baked filled potatoes. It was brought to the Balkans and Turkey with German settlers.

I'm oldschool. I enjoy exploring in games. I don't want markers pointing me towards my goal. No tutorial text spelling out puzzle solutions. I love when games direct me through environmental storytelling. Say my goal is to find a crashed plane. I can look for smoke on the horizon to find it myself.

I wish there was an internet without generative AI 🦊 When I search for fox photos it's hard now to find real pictures between all the AI generated garbage. AI is trashing up the internet. At some point it'll bury all the real human made stuff beneath a flood of AI trash.
