Blue Mason Bee (Osmia caerulescens) seen this afternoon looking in holes of a dead tree. Unlike the dark, metallic-blue females, males have a distinctly metallic-green body heavily clothed in dense, orange-golden hairs. #bees #irecord

Very privileged to find a Silver-studded Blue larva being tended by ants on Studland Heath today. Also one pupa which suggests they might be flying before the end of May! The ants protect them and they have been thriving on this reserve. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @dorsetbutterflies.bsky.social

Really valuable piece of research. We have used scrapes successfully on the old limestone quarries on Portland. A very different habitat but the vegetation recovers quickly and is also colonised by suitable ants, Lasius alienus. Sadly we do not have the resources to do enough to help SSB in big way

Male Fork-jawed Nomad Bee Nomada ruficornis with 'hitch hiking' Violet Oil Beetle Meloe violaceus triungulin larva. The beetle larva is trying to access the burrow of a female bee so could do so by jumping on the female during mating. Buckfastleigh, Devon.
