Great news on one level... but also an example of nature being pushed to the absolute fringes, in isolated, inaccessible places. Is this as good as it gets for nature in Britain? Are railway and roadside verges the few places nature can exist in modern Britain?

When studying the life cycles of British & Irish butterfly species, I was amazed to find that the pupae of Gatekeeper and Meadow Brown remain attached to their last larval skin, rather than reattaching themselves to a silk pad (the approach usually taken by species whose pupae hang head-down)!
