Today I learned that my dear friend Andrew Dice, AKA SpaceDrake, has passed away. I owe my entire career as it is today to him, he was even a beloved member of the community for my streams. I'm trying to gather my thoughts on this but it's a really difficult piece of news for me to take so suddenly.

Andrew Dice (SpaceDrake) took a massive risk bringing over EasyGameStation titles at a time when “doujin” had almost zero visibility. It was a joy to see those games succeed! 10 years ago, he shared his burnout story, so it’s a triumph that he was able to come back for SRW Y. Rest in peace.

It's difficult to overstate the influence Recettear's surprise hit of a digital English release was in terms of getting the Japanese games industry to turn their heads towards PC as a viable release platform. We all owe a lot to Andrew and his work and I'm so sad to hear this.

Absolutely devastated by this news. SpaceDrake was no doubt a huge influence in drumming up interest for Japanese indie games localized into English and pushing for them on digital distribution storefronts like steam. Huge loss. Might be time for another playthrough of Recettear in his honour.
