A ★★★★★ review of The Big Sleep (1946)

A ★★½ review of Party Girl (1958)
Some great dance numbers by Charisse break up the boilerplate gangster plot (with some admittedly "serious" heavy overtones/plot points: acid to face, crippled boyfriend). If you were wondering In wha...

The Comics Journal Message Board led me to a detour out of the late '90s dot-com boom and into a full decade with said Comics Journal, including being the poor fool who had to run said board.

Comics in Film: Foul Play (1978) Henchman reads a copy of Little Lulu #244 (Gold Key, 1978), by Arnold Drake and Irving Tripp. He's about to be defeated by librarian Goldie Hawn; classic comics vs literature class war in the guise of Hitchcockian farce.

RIP Ted Turner. Colorization is evil, but if you've seen some of these movies 10,000 times already it's kinda fun to see a fucked-up version of them.

Ted Turner lived long enough to witness the complete befouling of a significant part of his life’s work (CNN, cable news, arguably cable television altogether) but somehow Turner Classic Movies endures and that’s pretty awesome.

The top American movie 120 years ago was... A comic book adaptation. DREAM OF A RAREBIT FIEND (1906) was a live action adaptation of the Winsor McKay strip. Here we see the migraine imps doing their worst to the hapless hero, who has consumed entirely too much rarebit.

Born 30th March 1930, actor John Astin. Sadly, the majority of the original cast of "The Addams Family" are no longer with us, but, happily John is still around. John Astin played Gomez Addams in the show from 1964 to 1966. He is 96 today.

I love that in this 1970 story about how old Jay Garrick is, causing him to lose a step, he’s at most 50. (Assuming he was about 20 in Flash Comics #1 30 years earlier.) From Flash #201, 11/70, by Kanigher and Anderson.
