Portland’s @hollywoodtheatre.org is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and last night we saw EVIL DEAD II there, on film, in the big theater, sold out, the audience respectful and well-behaved (you never know, with cult favorites, if they’re going to be quoting the lines). Great experience.

The friend I’m staying with burst into my room last night as I was going to bed to say Lindsay Graham died. This was delightful! Then I went to sleep and forgot about it until I saw the news again this morning and was delighted all over again. For me it’s like he died twice!

I keep forgetting there’s a guy named Todd Blanche and every time I see a reference to “Blanche” I think it’s someone’s rude nickname for Lindsay Graham (RIP).

I quite enjoyed EVIL DEAD BURN, more so than EVIL DEAD RISE (not that it's a contest). Very gross, kind of funny, absurdly violent — very much an Evil Dead movie.

I don't think of Letterboxd as a social media site, though I guess it is. The first thing I did when I started using it was turn off comments from people I don't follow. Why would I want another venue for strangers to say dumb things to me? There are so many of those already!

I sped through ANGEL DOWN by Daniel Kraus this weekend. It's this year's Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction (the 100th book to win this category, as it happens), set in WWI, about a scoundrel-turned-lazy-soldier seeking redemption. It has elements of horror and magical realism and is very powerful.
