I need to emphasize what I say down-thread: this is a temporary, procedural move known as an administrative stay issued in haste by Justice Jackson. Little to nothing should be read into this ruling for how SCOTUS might ultimately rule on SNAP—either way.

The wording of this is highly unusual, and suggests that Justice Jackson is expecting the First Circuit to rule on a stay pending appeal (a longer pause of the district court's order) in the next few days. I'll have more to say about this in "One First" as soon as I can write it up.

The SCOTUS administrative stay is a terrible thing for 42 million Americans who are uncertain if they'll have food in November. But make sure to blame the *real* villain: Convicted Felon Donald Trump. It was his decision to appeal in the first place. Trump could just fully fund the SNAP benefits.
