If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA 10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)

No story is "out of your league." There is only YOUR version of that story. With enough time, dedication, and polishing, anyone can write A GOOD STORY, and with the right idea and the right amount of time and effort, it could even be A GREAT STORY. An idea being out of your league is in your head.

Writers, keep writing. Do not buy into the hype train telling you your job will be replaced in a few years. Those using AI are literally atrophying their brains ability to be creative. The future will need your words, your creativity, to function well.

Chuck Grassley Complicit in Sending Dozens of Innocent Men to a Concentration Camp - emptywheel
Chuck Grassley is protecting a guy, Emil Bove, who gave an order to unload dozens of innocent men into a concentration camp. Worse, he is cheating to promote him to a lifetime appointment.

Listen. The only way you can become a good writer is by being a shitty writer and doing it anyways. You can’t magically become a good writer by having a machine do some of the work for you. That just makes you a fraud.

If you really want to drive the point home about how fucked up ICE is then people should start forcing Star Wars themes on ICE. Protesters should start playing the imperial march whenever ICE shows up and should also start dressing like the rebel alliance.

This is an important point: maybe you don’t like romance, pulp horror, thrillers, self-help, formulaic stories about fairies for 8 year-olds or whatever, BUT Do not write these things off as rubbish that doesn’t matter If a human made it, and other humans like it, that’s art worth saving

If you want to write a book, make a film, paint, make music, or make any kind of art, just do it. Don’t worry about the what ifs or the doubts or the obstacles or the fears. Just write the book. Write the song. Make the movie. Make art. Have fun.

At this point I really need every single American to be at this level of rage. I don’t recognize this country anymore. And he hadn’t even seen the news yet of the mayor being taken and congress members being assaulted by ICE. This is appropriate levels of rage.
