While I understand the BBC’s imperative to provide balance in stories, at times it can feel completely ludicrous. Data vs one person’s entirely anecdotal opinion isn’t balance.

"I cycled to school when I was a kid, and we didn't need fancy cycle lanes." Yeah, but there's three times more traffic than there was in 1973.. Twice as many cars as there was in 1982.. ..36% more traffic on urban minor roads than there was in 1994.. ..and cars were *way* smaller, and lighter.

Cargo bikes. They're not for everyone, but for a lot of people they can and do replace a lot of car trips. Good news for people that want less traffic. Must watch video on cargo bike research 😎

This photo shows 58 cyclists and just two cars. MPs looking out of their window today will see a steady flow of people cycling, some for the first time in a while, given confidence to do so with quality infrastructure. Just over 10 years ago there wasn’t even a cycle lane here.

Brand new🚶‍♀️🚲 shared path infrastructure in Shrewsbury. When we say “shared” it doesn’t mean 🚙. But does explain why it’s sometimes safer to 🚲 on the carriageway, and why people choose to do it.

I believe in my heart that e-scooters have the potential to solve congestion in our towns and cities, but once in a while someone comes along to do the cause no good. Saying that, if a driver did this, we’d probably not notice and consider it normal. #Micromobility

I've started a podcast with fellow cargo bike enthusiast Tim – a man who also actually builds them as Ariel Bikes. I know there's a real dearth at the moment of podcasts featuring two middle-aged white men grumbling about the world, so this is me doing my bit to help.

Of course we have cycle racks, we are on a National Cycle Route.

A good reminder that the main reason people travel anywhere - especially older people - is to get to shops. If we make driving to shops compulsory we can't be surprised when people get no exercise. Mind you, 2 things can be true and the lazy arses in my village who drive 300m to the Co-op can do one

Where would I start? Discouraging short car trips for those who can walk, obvs, and taking steps like banning pavement parking and fixing pelican crossings to make walking easier and quicker. Getting house builders to stop building car-dependent transport deserts could also be a lasting impact

Waiting for that tipping point when most sensible people realise that transporting a single 80kg person in 2.5 tonnes of SUV was not the height of technical advancement but peak stupidity for the human race. Tax SUVs out of existence
