Exactly; protest the hotel (by reserving with different ones), not the convention (by not going at all). As mentioned in their reply post, there’s also still value in INFORMING the convention, so that hopefully they can update their contracts once they’re able to do so - which could be years away.

This applies to any contracted hotel, including overflows. Hotel agreements include a minimum hotel nights sold, any failure to sell x amount will mean the convention is liable to pay in the missing cost. This can easily be ~$50k or higher for some hotels.

If no one stays at the main hotel, the main hotel has grounds to sue the convention (and likely will sue) for not abiding by the contract. You cannot blame the furry conventions who already signed contracts with Hilton prior to this incident. Help them!

If you're gonna protest Hilton siding with ICE, I highly suggest you guys do some mutual aid shit to keep your favorite fur cons from sinking because of breaches of contract. Sadly, a common part of convention contracts is getting butts in rooms (hence, room blocks at special rates).
