Quick note about reports that NIST funding is being cut by an eye-watering 80 or 84% (this one is from AIP FYI's newsletter)—we struggled a bunch with this figure in our reporting, but to my best understanding it's not quite this large. It's about a 54% reduction (still huge!) to ~850 million.

There's plenty of other details (see this quick chart) but the SBE close-down is particularly notable because it is the president's budget request having an impact now—despite the fact that these requests are typically rejected by Congress.

Here's the full Trump-Vought FY27 budget proposal. www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u... It lists NIH as "-$5 billion" with a top line budget of $41B. The math doesn't math tho bc FY26 budget was $48.7, making $41B a $7.7B (not $5B) cut. Also calls to eliminate NIMHD, FIC & NCCIH.

The U.S. administration released the FY 2027 Budget Request this morning, proposing deep cuts to science funding once again. While there are similarities in the proposed cuts between FY26 and FY27, the final FY26 appropriations show the impact of advocacy in action.
