I stand with survivors of domestic violence, abuse of power, and sexual assault.    I’m deeply disturbed by allegations made against 3 of my Congressional colleagues: Rep. Cory Mills, Rep. Tony Gonzales, and Rep. Eric Swalwell.

ICE detainment at Miami Correctional in Bunker Hill, IN must end. Today, I visited the facility and met with 2 ICE detainees. Our criminal justice system is broken—from the disproportionate number of Black Americans in prison to ICE detaining tens of thousands of people without criminal records.

A genocidal threat from a U.S. president is beyond dangerous. Escalating strikes while threatening to wipe out an entire civilization puts innocent Iranian civilians and Americans at risk. These are intentional war crimes. We need to invoke the 25th Amendment now to stop these violations.

I was proud to visit the Damien Center to highlight $850,000 I secured to support housing, healthcare, and HIV prevention services for Indianapolis residents. I will keep fighting to bring resources back home and invest in programs that strengthen our community.

Today, Martindale Brightwood residents can make their voices heard on the impact of a new data center. This public hearing is a chance for Indianapolis to speak up and speak out—neighbors, activists, labor leaders, and community stakeholders.

I am proud to earn a 100% score from the @lcv.org. At a time when the Trump administration is making major cuts to environmental protections, I will continue fighting for cleaner air and water and investing in clean energy.

Women make less than men for doing the same work — and the gap gets even wider for women of color. I'm working to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to prevent discrimination, protect women, and make our economy better for everyone.

Democrats have put forth a solution to fully fund TSA — without giving ICE more money to attack our communities.  Republicans refuse to accept it.  We can and should make sure TSA workers are paid while still holding ICE accountable.

I just submitted an amendment to stop ICE from hiding behind masks and face coverings. We need transparency. We need ICE out of our airports and out of our homes. Republicans need to work with Democrats to fund DHS the right way.

I join Hoosiers across the state in mourning the loss of Capt. Seth R. Koval, an American hero who served our nation with honor. My prayers are with his family, community and all who served beside him. We will never forget his sacrifice and bravery to our country.

President Trump is dragging us into another endless war without congressional approval. I voted against this war because Americans should not have to suffer higher costs or decisions that puts lives at risk.

I’m proud to host my annual Youth Opportunities Fair to provide students the opportunity to enter the workforce. Investing in young people allows for stronger communities, a stronger workforce, and a bright future for Indianapolis.

My annual Youth Opportunities Fair with Ivy Tech was a success! We helped close to 200 young people find jobs, internships, and other opportunities ahead of the summer months.

It appears no one was seriously injured at a shooting at a Michigan synagogue, but the fear and trauma caused by violence is real and damaging—not just for those present, but for loved ones and the entire community.

Gas prices have skyrocketed in the last week because of Trump’s war against Iran. It’s already disrupted the global oil supply – and if this war continues, it will impact the cost of nearly all goods.   No more endless foreign wars.

Communities of color and women's voting rights are under attack. The SAVE Act would create new barriers that make it harder for many Americans to vote. I wrote in the Indianapolis Recorder about why we must protect access to the ballot.

The U.S. lost 92,000 jobs lost in February while prices climb and families struggle to keep up with rising costs. President Trump promised lower costs on day one, but job losses are doing nothing to make life more affordable for working people.

Last night, Trump touted a new retirement savings plan to help millions of working Americans.  Except it's not a new plan. It's Democrats' plan—and President Biden already signed it into law in 2022.  Beware of Trump taking Democrats' accomplishments and passing them off as his own.

I will not be attending Trump’s State of the Union. The American people already know what the state of our union is. It is marked by frustration, rising costs, and deep exhaustion.

I secured federal funding for Shepherd Community Center, which is working to break the cycle of poverty in Indianapolis. These investments are essential to strengthening our community.

Trump’s tariffs have caused costs to skyrocket – but the Supreme Court just ruled these tariffs are illegal, in what’s being called a “major blow” to Trump.   Trump is already losing 70% of court cases filed against him. Now there’s another to add to the list.

Rep. Fine continues to make completely racist and Islamophobic comments without repercussions. These statements aren't just words. They spur hate and violence against the Muslim community. As Dean of the Muslim Caucus, I'm calling on Rep. Fine to resign. We can’t let this bigotry go unchecked.

Officer Brian Elliott lost his life in the line of duty last night. I'm praying for his family and the entire Beech Grove Police Department, and another officer who was shot and injured.

Let’s be clear: non-citizens voting is already illegal.   The SAVE Act doesn’t fix a real problem. It creates new barriers by forcing Americans to present a passport or birth certificate in person just to register or update their registration.

Trump posted a video of our former president and first lady depicted as primates. This represents the many people who don’t see Black people as human. Unacceptable! He knows exactly what he is doing.   Dehumanizing images reflect dehumanizing policies.
