Re: avoiding burnout- Internal factors like this are essential, but I can’t help mentioning that external factors like having a good paycheck, supportive organization, plenty of time off, etc are also crucial. (I hope #EMSsky becomes a thing)

Paramedics follow protocols for this, but should also understand the nuance both medically (not all PEA is the same) and in regards to family (explaining clearly in plain speak the what/why/how of the decision to terminate). It’s a huge responsibility.

Just as an educational point for anyone who wants to pursue a large city/town EMS you need to be prepared to deal and work with local politics. It’s not just medics you need you convince of an important job, it’s the recipients of EMS care (including yourself and fam)
