The equalities act doesn’t compel single sex spaces (now to be interpreted as single “biological sex” spaces). They can still chose to be trans inclusive. But now they’ll see much more resistance from ignorant bigots.

The headlines are misleading. They did not define man and woman in all of law. It specifically relates to the Equalities Act. Which still sucks, but is not the same thing.

essentially the judges are arguing that words like "women" in law refer specifically to cisgender women because they apply to things like pregnancy which transgender women can't yet do. so the only possible reading is transgender exclusion from any law not specifically mentioning our place in it.

crucially the most important thing to take away here is that *IT DOES NOT REVOKE YOUR EQUALITY ACT PROTECTIONS*. The perception of you, a transgender woman, as a woman is still very much enough for you to be discriminated against and bring legal action. This is expressly stated in the ruling docs.

i am reading the ruling now and the tldr version of it is our cissexist society didn't super consider us when writing its laws and so the obvious interpretation is our exclusion and the one law that does exist specifically for us was written so badly it might not as well have been written at all.
