I dreamt of a new word last night. The word was STRYLLANA, and it appeared fully defined as “the IT information gleaned from the first ten seconds of drinking a beer.” I don’t know.

Honoured to have the first AVCX cryptic clue featured in Parseword be one of mine! Kinda wild.

I'd love to give my complaints about clue quality some credit for this, but honestly, I'm just happy they're responding and going to the AVCX, because they do great work, and I think that's a step in the absolute right direction.

It hasn't really converted me into a cryptics appreciator (yet), but I've been doing Parseword every day and find it plenty charming.

I guess in my heart I always knew they'd find a secret way to get me into cryptics.

Just finished 12th(!) out of 600ish solvers in my divisions (138th out of 800ish overall) at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament 🤯🏆 #acpt Such a great weekend filled with tremendously lovely humans! 💕

The web-based solving platform Crosswordr is alas winding down in a few months. What platform might you like AVCX to partner with? Or if yr not sure, let us know which features you like in a solving platform.

Frustratingly, though the heat is thankfully back in the apartment, my jaw is still sore from the root canal I had yesterday, so I won't be streaming tonight. Will be back with cryptics from @gnomoncryptics.bsky.social and @unchcrosswords.com and @avcx.bsky.social later this week, or next Tuesday.

The best time to announce that you've constructed another cryptic crossword was when it was published, last year. The second-best time is now. Many thanks to @francisheaney.bsky.social for another fine round of editing, and to the good people of @avcx.bsky.social for having me again.

Maybe AVCX starts a journalism concern. It sort of makes sense to build out from the gewgaws people subscribe to to the rest of the paper, since the financial models already work that way.
