Woke up thinking it was Saturday. Hopefully that will be the only big disappointment of the day but we'll see. I still have a work day to get through, after all.

I am once again thinking about moving to Ottawa. Moving has been on hold for, well, a lot of reasons. But I think I need to just do it and get out of limbo.

Back with another one. Embroidered Worlds, a short fiction collection with a lot of variety and a few stories I really loved. Top of mind are Geddarien by R.B. Lemberg and Honey by Valya Dudycz Lupescu. (8/?)

A Flame in the North by Lilith Saintcrow came across my feed here and I'm so glad I bought it because it is extremely *my shit.* It's like a love letter to myth and storytelling and Tolkien. I also got the second one and loved that too. (7/? - last for now because I do actually have to work today)

I heard about the Kickstarter for this anthology, To Root Somewhere Beautiful, on bluesky and backed it. The cover is gorgeous and there are so many good stories. My favourite is The Last Singapore Girls by Wen-Yi Lee. (6/?)

Then there's the Run with the Hunted series by Jennifer R. Donohue. I *think* I got the first one free, and then bought the rest of the series over the span of about a week. Cyberpunk-ish heist stories with three great protagonists. They're all very fun and I can't wait for the next one. (5/?)

I also heard about The Dragonfly Gambit by A.D. Sui here on bluesky and was intrigued, though I'm more of a fantasy reader than a sci fi reader. I picked it up anyway and loved it. I'm here for revenge and mess. (4/?)

Countess, by Suzan Palumbo, is wonderful. I was already following the author here, saw some good reviews and when I saw a copy at a book festival I couldn't resist. I've also now picked up Skin Thief: Stories by the same author, even though I'm a weenie about horror, and it's also great. (3/?)

The book I loved so much I bought it twice! Asunder by Kerstin Hall. I got the ebook in January, haven't stopped thinking about it, and just bought a paperback copy too. Karys Eska is the character of my heart and I will not be unpacking that thought outside of therapy thanks. (2/?)

I'm disappointed but not at all surprised that Overdrive's response me about AI in Libby is to reassure me that it's optional and not actually a response to any of the points I raised in my email (ethics, env impact, etc). And then they finish off by telling me how I can give it a try in the app 🙄

I never pictured myself as someone who would spend the evenings after my 9-5 writing strongly worded emails to companies like Air Canada and Overdrive and to the federal government but here I am. I sat down to write one but I'm here now and I'm angry again, so ugh

I don't think some of the people trying to justify using genAI to "write" books or make "art" actually even want to be writers or artists. I think they just want to be seen to have created something and it's about how they want to be perceived.
