Neighbours are doing renovations. They were kind enough to start at 8am, so not obnoxiously early, but early enough that my head is Fucking Pounding. No idea what they're doing but sure do hope they hurry the fuck up with it because far out it's doing my head in.

My grandfather had three names. One was used affectionately, the second was for Serious Conversations, and the third was never, ever mentioned. Names change. People change. It's normal.

Superb to see that the Libs have maintained their impressively shit house approach to fostering new leaders. Of course, this is due to their steadfast belief that only one person ever can lead the Liberal Party. They just don't know who that person is.

Imagine being the Labor Premier of the largest state and economy in Australia, looking at what has been happening on the streets of American cities, and thinking, yeah, we need some of that here. Unfathomable, and unforgivable.

I'll never understand saying happy birthday to dead people. Or not to them, but on social media. Bertolt Brecht had no idea what social media was. Why are you saying happy birthday to him? He's dead. He stopped getting older when he died. Say 'paying respect to BB on his birthday today' instead.

It's quite something when you encounter someone who is experiencing their first day on the internet and don't understand how websites or social interactions work. Anyhow, it's nice to remember 'block and block often.'

Watching the current Albo fiasco play out is clear that the opposition - what of it - knows that to get their way, they just need to wedge Labor on an issue and keep pushing the button until Albo tries to 'both sides' it. Referendum, environment, Bondi massacre, now the President of Israel.

Just finished reading Imminent by Luis Elizondo and while I quite enjoyed reading it, I'm also smart enough to not start talking to my partner about everything that's in it for fear that she'll take my ramblings as evidence of me finally having cracked.

Made the early morning mistake of having a second coffee right after the first coffee, rather than letting the whole digestive system settle for a bit. You can't just jump into a second coffee this way. It's like swimming after eating, you've gotta let it calm itself down before you mix streams.

In 2026, be kind to yourself and when you think you could be about to enter into an argument with a stranger on the internet, instead, just reach for the block button and then forget they ever exist. Their mum already forgets they exist, so it's ok if you do too.

I am up to my waist in Hades at the moment and really enjoying it. Quite impressive that they can make a repetitive game feel fresh and new each run. I've got a long way to go before the end and I max out relationships, but I'm enjoying it a lot. I won't dive into Hades 2 right away, but keen as.

America does a lot that's not right, but high at the top of the list of things that are genuinely bad about that country is that they normalised putting two letters as a first name. JD is not a name. TJ is not a name. AJ is not a name. Always with J's too and always men, not women.

I do really wish that in the midst of so much fucking shit going on 24/7 that there was a little bit more acceptance or understanding of the fallibility of people. If someone is mostly aligned with your values and they make a mistake or were unaware of something and own up to it, then that's ok.

Understanding now why certain film critics got very upset when I said I don't need to re-watch the films of the French New Wave. They've just been published in a book about... The French New Wave. I never said I didn't like FNW, I've just seen enough of it to not delve into it more.

He has said he has always been uncomfortable with multiculturalism, and had called for Asian migration to stop. He disagrees with people who say racism is a problem in Australia because that hasn’t been his experience. Why would anyone listen to him about social cohesion?!

John Howard pushed for the invasion of Iraq, which was one of the dominoes which created the conditions for ISIS and caused untold human misery we are still dealing with today. He refused to acknowledge racism was a main driver of the Cronulla riots.

I met John Howard once when he abandoned his security and tried to enter a building through an exit door. He was disgruntled by the fact that the door would not take him to where he needed to be, even though it was his fault he was in the wrong place. Nothing changes.

Against the advice of my better half, I might purchase some sandals which are currently 50% off. I won't mention that I've bought them until they arrive and I put them on. Then it'll be too late and I'll have to commit to a sandal life. I just want cool feet.

Why do Americans call it 'grilled cheese' and not a 'grilled cheese sandwich'? The sandwich is the functional thing in the equation. When I was young I thought it was literally just grilled cheese so I did just that: cheese under the grill. Ended up with melted cheese which was impossible to eat.
