A summer soccer league is going to face some serious questions as climate change progresses. Time to institute better policies and management to prevent this from happening again.

NWSL needs to face harsh realities about climate change (heat, wildfire smoke + more). Players shouldn’t have to play under these conditions & it’s not safe for them or fans. I don’t go to games during heat advisories & sold my playoff tickets last year due to poor air quality. [1/2]

Concerned about the Stars v Gotham NWSL game tomorrow- AQI in Chicago is 235, which would currently warrant being postponed by the league. Can’t imagine it will be safe to play tomorrow given the current wildfire smoke map. 150+ AQI is widely thought to be harmful, especially for intense activity.

I would like to have a word with whoever at NWSL scheduling decided that two of Gotham’s home matches in the first half of August should be at noon and 4 PM. Just miserable timing with summer weather and heat. I can’t be the only fan who is dissuaded from going due to the timing.

Announcing games is a hard job, but there's an across-the-board tendency in NWSL to focus on filling the quiet more than there is on engaging with the game, leading to moments like this. Given how common it is, it feels like a choice made above announcers' heads.
