Ahh, this is great news: standalone DOSBox PURE. I've used the PURE core on Retroarch for a few years now, and it's taken a lot of the fuss out of running DOS games. It autoconfigures an appropriate PC spec for a particular game correctly the vast majority of the time.

A reminder that Windows 10 will still be mostly viable in EOL unless you are a person that is for some reason particularly likely to be targeted by zero-day vulns. It's also very easy to disarm most of the worst changes that Windows 11 forces. I am about 40% through writing a blog post w/ tips.

obligatory Windows 10 EoL post, except I missed it by about a day. Don't throw away your computer if it can't handle Windows 11 due to Microsoft's arbitrary restrictions on hardware. Instead, install another operating system. Linux is very viable for gaming these days, I say from experience.

Here's what I have on my main Windows XP gaming machine. My most played games: StarCraft, Half-Life, The Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Duke 3D and Yoot Tower. This machine is a Dell Dimension E510 with an upgraded ATI Radeon graphics card, maxed out the RAM and two 1TB SSDs.
