A thank you to Rev Bob Henderson, Chaplain to the Forces, for a moving and thoughtful memorial service this morning. It was lovely to see such good attendance with everyone paying their respects. Ray Donnelly laid a wreath on behalf of LCC and looked impeccable doing so.

Good news we received today is that planning permission has been granted for the development of the community micro-hub next to the Greenway Garden on the Murrayburn side. Thanks to everyone who commented, both positively and those who raised concerns. 🙏 Work now continues on funding the project.

- Residents incredulous that again the hedge completely blocking a Redhall Grove school pavement has still not been cut back by @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social . Shameful the amount of time and resource our community & @rosssmckenzie.bsky.social have spent chasing! Just get it cut already. 🤬🤬/5

Some good news for local drivers. Carriageway resurfacing coming to Longstone Rd early next year. - Eastbound from the junction of Longstone Terrace to opposite the junction of Parkhead Loan. - Westbound from the junction of Longstone Park for approximately 70m.

Perfect? No, but it was never going to be. However observations from walking about are: 👍 overwhelming majority of households across the Redhall/Longstone area have not set off fireworks this year and that reflects on our community well. 👍 /1

The section at Redhall Drive/Gardens has been identified after a request from a local school, for the road markings to be refreshed, as they have bikeability sessions at this location. The carriageway will need to be repaired in advance of this.”/2

Additional clarity - why this section of Redhall Drive has been marked up. Seems we have the young cyclists to thank on this occasion. “Process of marking up locations for patching has only just begun, so there will be many more streets inspected & added to our works schedule in the coming months./1

Still lots of flowers bring some late season joy as we start tidying up the Clovie garden for winter. Lots of healthy green veg and we sent some to the Sunflower Pantry this morning.

Starting with the lads today in the Calders Greenshoots garden bringing some improvements over the winter months on a Tuesday. Shed upgrades, water harvesting upgrades, solar harvesting system, storage upgrades and more. Lots to do!

Consultation in the The New Kingsknowe tomorrow from 4pm - 7pm in the function room. First step to driving improvement in this part of our community. Will result in a concept designs which need to be funded, but will provide ammunition for us to fight for the changes. It won't happen overnight.

Tom brought us the compost worms and bedding materials to make at home in our new Greenway Garden wormery that Tom and Ricky made reality. We’ll be feeding them regularly and looking forward to some top grade worm compost and tea as they work their magic. 🪱🪱🪱🪱

We've requested additional sheffield bike stands as the current ones are overwhelmed quickly & we want to make it easy for families using a ride down to the park as a warm up to store their bikes safely. With Disc Golf Community coming to the park soon as well, the extra capacity will be welcomed.

Sad to see the loss of the World of Football facilities as the development on New Mart Road is given permission by Scot Gov to proceed, after a long wait. This no-car development with 1200+ cycle parking provision came up in recent discussions on the Longstone Link bridge project.

So this is what was going on this morning. Union Canal path between Redhall Park turnoff and Kingsknowe Station will be closed each day for the next couple of weeks from 8am - 4.30pm. Cutting back ash trees. Diversion in place. No notice of this in advance 👎🏼 @spokes.org.uk @sw20.info @edi.bike

During a ‘moderate’ spell of rain on 03/09/25 the unmonitored Dovecot CSO began emitting ‘screened water’ from the sewer into the Water of Leith. Concerning to see sewer debris left behind & raises questions about exactly what is going into our local river when these CSOs do their job?

Dovecot Park Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) working well today. This one’s not monitored yet. A powered screen is removing sanitary products, wipes, nappies and other stuff that should not go down the toilet. What enters the Water of Leith is a dilution of sewer particulate stuff with rainwater.
