I was a teacher for a long time. A lot (a LOT) of dinguses think they could easily do that work because they attended school. But, like. Teachers have to anticipate EVERYTHING and also manage the emotional state of people who don’t communicate smoothly and are *learning how* to people. 🤯

My day job is at a rural branch of a public library, and we have a Pride display. Yesterday I was at the desk when a man came in. Fifties, maybe, or sixties. It’s not precisely a thing, so #thingthursday is maybe not the deal, but! We invented a MOCKTAIL and it’s too SWEET but I am DELIGHTED. It is called a SHIPWRECK and it involves blue Kool-Aid, ginger beer, a bourbon cherry with juice, and a gold coin!

It is meal prep/fend for yourself week over here, and I just made a pretty good chicken Alfredo pasta from ingredients on hand (was foiled twice by having used up stuff I thought I still had, whoops). Very pleasing to make food out of component parts - even better when it’s a little bit improv.

Same. HOWEVER: my anecdotal experience (at the library & w the local school district) suggests that younger adult users prefer apps over websites. I had a manager who DID NOT EVER directly type the URL *of the library for which we worked.* Always a web search. A web search!! For their employer!!!

This is just ballots turned in. Many young voters don't fill out the "down ballot" local races. This allows seniors to dominate local politics despite being a minority. Don't let them do that! Use Ballotpedia or Vote411 to learn about candidates & be an informed voter of the whole ballot

6 months ago I got tired of my smartwatch always doing exactly everything except telling me the time of day. So I fished out my old analog Swiss Army watch, my prized possession in middle school, popped a new battery in, could not be happier.

I have a whole issue right now with stories that are realistic fiction but have, like, one ghost or a sentient typewriter in them. Realistic fantasy? Just plain speculative fiction? I have sidestepped by landing on “Christie’s Picks” for work, but it’s a puzzlement. :)

Can I plant flowers where the snowplow piles end up? Thinking of coneflowers and phlox at the end of my driveway, but I have hesitated because we KNOW that stuff is going to be squashed. Anyone have experience with these in a boulevard planting?
