This is true! But the misapprehension has its occasion: the Bible is often present differently in the EC (& RC) church than in many other Xian traditions. The evangelical preaching I grew up with was *much* more expository than RC homilies & Bible Studies were a much more common community event.

At the core of our worst ideas is an absurdity with which we are under no obligation to be coherent nor are we obligated to integrate. Indeed, bc they’re irrational, we couldn’t anyway.

I suspect, however, that in our secularizing society, there’s a substantial # of folks who don’t believe God exists, nevertheless living as if this God exists. And while I don’t think belief is a matter of indifference here, it’s more important how you act than what you believe.

And this isn't only true in the case of God. All of my experiencing is immediate to me as well & requires mediation to become an object of knowledge. This is part of why you hear Lonerganians go on about 'knowing isn't taking a look.' They mean that knowledge is had through, not despite mediation.
