Yeah, my degree is in Creative Writing. I've won awards AND have spent the past 15 years editing professionally. If I want my work critiqued, I know where to go. I also know how to critique others. No one arguing against the OP in this thread is qualified. They feel entitled. Big difference.

The comments are full of assholes trying to justify their assholery. Can you criticize someone's work? Sure. You can also walk up to a stranger and tell them their taste in fashion sucks. When it comes to dickish behavior, you CAN do pretty much anything but doing dick things makes you a dick.

You're thinking of reviews, which are written for the potential audience of a work, NOT sent directly to the author or attached directly to every copy of the work in question. Unsolicited critique is showing up saying "I'm your editor now!" when that is a high-trust, consent-based relationship!
