I'm a writer who has self published 4 novels and I've commissioned and paid artists for all of my covers. It's always a pleasure to do so and I even even canvas prints of 3 on my walls because they're actual art I'm proud to display

When I started making @dndversus.bsky.social one of the podcast publishing platforms had an AI Cover Art tool and I didn't even test it, I emailed @rachelgeorge.bsky.social and she's been my go to for art for the show since then and the results have been amazing.

If you can't respect other artists I can't respect you as an artist, full stop. Yes, it costs money to hire people but if you can't hire a person even something you make yourself, no matter how rough, will always feel more personal and meaningful than slop you told a machine to churn out.

A long time ago a teacher told me that when you hire an artist for their craft you're not just paying for the individual piece, you're paying for all the work they did before because it all helped them refine the skills they bring for you.

I write novels, take photos, produce a podcast- all without AI. I love the process and effort to make these things. I love the learning and collaboration with friends. I take pride in the results, and because of all that you better believe I look down on folks who use AI and claim they're artists.
