Here is a little video of the chickadees. A handy trick if you have an iPhone: If you're taking a picture of something, and an interesting action event happens, just keep taking pictures every second or so. You can then easily splice the Live Photos into a video -- that's what I did here!

Good morning! How are you holding up? What are you up to today? Last year, sapsuckers carved out a nest in an alder snag. This year, chickadees have set up house. The chickadee clinging to the hole is actually a fledgling, based on its begging behavior. See linked post for video :)

Photos really do not do it justice, but when you get thousands and thousands of camas blooming, they make a wonderful purple haze that emphasizes the mounds that this area is famous for. Our area is mostly forested, which makes the expanse of prairie a special treat. (2/
