Q: What does your win signal about what voters want? James Talarico: I think people are really sick of the politics we’ve had for the last ten years. The first words out of my mouth on the campaign trail was that the real fight in this country is not left versus right — it's top versus bottom.

James Talarico: As a millennial, I saw how military disasters like the Iraq war robbed this nation of young lives, billions of dollars, and our moral standing. We are always told we don’t have enough money for schools but there’s always enough money to bomb people on the other side of the world.

No more forever wars.

James Talarico: No one's ever asked me about the cost of housing. The only thing the media wants to ask me about are trans athletes. The only minority destroying this country is the billionaires. Trans people are 1% of the population. We are focused on the wrong 1%.

Texans are ready for a new kind of politics.

James Talarico in first interview since his primary victory: My faith teaches me to love my neighbor as myself. Texas has a deep hunger for a different kind of politics rooted in love. The old politics of total war is dying, and we are building a movement to take on this broken system.
