This is why it’s a problem to have right-wing governments at the local government level. If passed, this budget would not only devastate services, it would pass debt to future councils. Interest and inflation don’t magically disappear. It’s “electoral math,” not fiscal prudence or good governance.

This was the most surprising thing I’ve learned as a councillor. All festivals and events pay their own policing costs, on top of the 21% they get of our entire budget

So in the absence of any official policy, a community festival was told they’d need to pay two cops $437/hour each, with no justification or oversight from the city
