Going under the knife this morning for hiatal hernia repair, and I'm quite nervous. I've only had minor procedures before, so it's pretty scary. Keep a good thought for me!

Have you ever read a book that had character names that irritated you? I just read The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand. I love escaping to Nantucket with her, but her character names are prissy and irritating. Dabney, Clendenin, Agnes, Box, Celerie, (like the vegetable).

Haircut tomorrow! I'm so tempted to go short, but the specter of Thelma Harper lives in my brain. The humidity here is so bad that I look like Hagrid on a good day and a yeti on a bad one. My grays are like steel wool, and a short cut might make me look a box of Brillo.

It was 83 here today, with 82% humidity, which means my hair will still be wet from my morning shampoo at bedtime. I'm not adept with hair dryer techniques, so air drying saves me from cotton candy hair. It's really gotten gray. Oh well...

Maizie has been here for 6 months, and today, I saw her snuggling with Simon. There's been some alpha dog moments between her and Maxwell, but even they are starting to interact more. A core memory was unlocked for me today. Since I was a kid, I have loved sitting with my big sister Debbie while she's putting on her makeup. It's muscle memory for her. She doesn't even have to stop her line of conversation when she's doing her eyeliner!

The doggies had day spa today, and Maizie seemed to be thrilled with her experience. Her hairbows lasted 5 minutes.

Any tips on how to prepare your skin for an IV? I've been stuck as many as 7 times because my skin is tough, and my veins are slippery. Can I numb myself with lidocaine before I go in? Seriously. That's my biggest issue with procedures.

I learned today about the murder-suicide of an old school friend. He suffered from depression and addiction and apparently snapped, killing his wife, then himself. I learned of a friend whose breast cancer metastasized into her spine, like my SIL. What a sad day of bad news. I just want to cry.

I'm sleeping with the windows open tonight. It's going to be in the mid-50s, and there's a lovely breeze blowing through the still naked trees.

Most nights, I wake up several times to shift positions and flip the covers on and off. I realized my feet were always freezing even if the rest of me was too hot. The last 2 nights, I wore socks. I slept 10 hours on Friday and 12 last night. I barely moved at all. Seriously? That's all it took?

I didn't realize there was a 6:30am. I don't like it at all! It's dark and cold, and I don't want to change out of my warm pjs and go out to face the world. I'd much rather stay in my warm cozy bed with my pups. Oh boy! Radioactive eggs, here I come!

I'm having a gastric emptying test in the morning. I'm rarely hungry before noon, and I'm not a fan of eggs, so we'll see if I can actually swallow the radioactive breakfast waiting for me.

Woohoo! Got my Januvia rx filled. $90 instead of 55. My meds on our work insurance were $90 for 3 months. Just had them filled with Anthem, $300 for 3 months. Wow! The grumpy lady at CVS is nicer to me now, pity for the cost, maybe. Coming up, upper GI to check for gastroparesis and an esophageal

3 month checkup yesterday. A1C 6.6, unchanged. Woohoo! Cholesterol 181,Triglycerides 87. Good girl! Appointment for upper GI check made. Pills and foods hanging in my throat. Barrett's esophagus and gastroparesis need a look see. Surprise, though GFR is 59, down 20 from last year. Creatinine is up.

Once again, Anthem put a hold on my Januvia refill. No reason given, just a hold. Type 2 in the US is so much fun.

I'm practicing escapism today. Cinnamon Teddy Grahams, Sweet Magnolias, Brownie Scout. One of those is an excellent strain of indica. All are better than real life.
