“A generation of students at Scottish universities and colleges has lost out because the UK rejected the EU’s offer to stay in the Erasmus scheme after Brexit. Today’s announcement that the UK is rejoining Erasmus is very good news for Scotland’s young people" European Movement in Scotland.

Six years after it was ripped away, Erasmus is coming back, and it did not happen by accident. Sustained campaigning and relentless pressure forced this back onto the agenda. Young people finally get their opportunities back.

This is what persistence looks like. Rejoining Erasmus+ shows that change is possible when people keep pushing for it, and it strengthens the case for going further in rebuilding our relationship with Europe.

Rejoining Erasmus+ gives young people from every background the chance to learn, train and build confidence beyond borders. Now, it is essential that we continue to rebuild our relationship with Europe, and restore all of the opportunities that were lost.

Good to see a significant majority of Britons welcome our rejoining Erasmus, recognising the strong benefits the experience has, for both UK and other European students, that Brexit had sadly ended. (A shame not to see data for SNP, SGP, GPEW, Plaid, etc, voters, though.)
