I proposed to Alyssa today and she said yes! Shout out to @itshugosnook.bsky.social for designing this fantastic Wingspan parody! It’s her favorite board game, and I MAY have lied and told her I was expecting a review copy for a new expansion in the mail. She doesn’t seem too mad about it.

It just kept going nonstop for the full 3 hours! A truly exceptional debut of indie tabletop @ PAXWest! This needs to stay! It was too good not to! Multiple folks SOLD OUT of their games, and the amount of energy and excitement for games so bespoke like this was unparalleled! Thank you so much @Pax

J will be demoing Ocean of Fire at PAX West. (DM me if you'd like to playtest it.) I plan to seek publication with this one, which is rare for me (but, hopefully, going to get less so).

The Crow. Brandon Lee’s death altered the trajectory of my life. Before that, it felt like I was on a roll with writing and publishing comic books. James O’Barr, The Crow’s creator, had just finished an illustration for me, and I’d commissioned him for painting. Things felt “real.” Then they didn’t.

People will often only put forth effort when they feel there is a chance they may be able to change something. This can create ridiculous dissonance. "I can't do anything about genocide, but I may be able do something about a hobby board game company profiting off racist or transphobic content."

LinkedIn is just godawful. No one feels the way that people pretend to feel on there. It’s like that Twilight Zone episode where the kid sends people away to the corn field.

This was so awful when it was happening.

I don’t often fanboy out, but my sons and I (and one of their friends) have played several hundred hours Gloomhaven in “the pug room” (before they left me for D&D). And when I met @cephalofair.bsky.social at the MvM after party at Gen Con, I kind of babbled for a bit.

Rock Hard: 1977 won the Dice Tower award for Best Theming 2024. The only thing better than getting to accept in person is having @sirjoshwood.bsky.social read your acceptance speech. Hope I get to be in the audience when he inevitably wins one!

I haven’t talked about this in a bit: The pandemic turned me into a cave troll who could not relate to people properly, even over the Internet. The thought of attending an event like Gen Con felt like death.

At this point, I think publishers, stores, distributors, retailers, conventions, media, etc. should stop including products featuring the IP. Enough time has gone by that anyone who worked on a newer product knew what it would mean out in the world.
