I've definitely dealt with publishers who would listen to literally anyone else other than the designer. One playtester in one playtest out of thirty? We'd better get on that. Reddit? Absolutely. Someone who wandered in off the street? Tell us more, oh wise one! Game designer? Pft, what do you know?

Yeah, this sort of groupthink is common in boardgaming too. Players often hear an opinion voiced at the gaming table, and that becomes the truth for that table. They'll ignore or miss built-in tools to handle a situation, they'll experience a weird statistical anomaly, and then that's it.

Finspan made the list!

Some close friends to be get a little frustrated in my tendency to priortise luck in my own career, as they know how I work. I try to explain that work just is buying a lottery ticket. It's necessary, but certainly not sufficient. I know many folks who've worked as hard but the dice have been cruel.

We played Too Many Bones yesterday. It has great, um...bones, but I think it is hampered, at times, by extra stuff that didn't need to be in there. And there are too many scenarios that seem bent on keeping players from just playing the game. For a day-long campaign, there are few better though.

I’m at a new company. At the virtual all hands, they introduced me, and my interesting fact (these days) is that I design board game with my sons. It's funny how unknown the whole industry is to the average person.

I went to Target to buy myself a present after doing a difficult thing & this was staring me in the face so I bought it. 25% off & a $15 gift card = 😁. I intent to play solo without the bot- just beat your own high score. I’m pretty sure there’s a way to do that just by removing some of the cards.

Stonemaier Design Day. The game boards for my prototype of Primal Dawn are 20% broader in both dimensions than they should be - all so I could use D&D figures as the minis. I did not consider (until it was too late) how I would never be able to fit it on a reasonably sized table.

We took the lightrail to the airport, and it was packed to the gills with people going to the Ms game. When we hit St. Louis, there was one bar open in the airport, and people were standing around watching the game. It was the bottom of the 15th.

I am heading to Stonemaier Design Day in St. Louis. Should be a lot of fun!
