#bookerinternationalprize shortlist reads. Kawakami's future is both off-kilter & somehow nostalgic. The novel falters a little when it tries too hard to help us create a coherent picture instead of allowing us to piece it together from the hazily, beautifully drawn fragments. A satisfying read.
