The *wild* way the cops just decided to not do their jobs for a decade in basically every major city in the country is one of the most underreported stories. Automated enforcement is a good solution for this specific problem, but the broader rejection of civilian authority is a much larger issue.

Alberta's separatist campaign has private info on 2.9 million residents, including names, addresses, electoral IDs and phone numbers; Elections Alberta previously declined to investigate potential data breach. With my pal Chen Wang.

just learned and confirmed that Alberta’s list of electors, containing everyone’s personal information, was made available to the separatists. This is illegal, risks public safety, and creates uneven playing field as we fight for Canada.

Misinformation isn't spreading into politics because people are reading Politico or going on Bluesky to post about court-packing. It's because people are spending 2+ hours a day swiping through addiction-based short-form video apps that aren't specifically political, sharing memes about politics.

one of the reasons this has the potential to get bad-bad is that Iran's leverage is very powerful but not directly applicable to the countries attacking it, which creates a principle-agent problem on a pretty massive scale

One of the reasons why this keeps going on is the gov’t of the US doesn’t care, because so far effects are localized on Asians and Africans. The gov’t is practically run by white supremacists that literally see death in these countries as a positive outcome

Some administration officials believe that continuing the blockade for two more months would cause significant long-term damage to Tehran’s energy industry. Oil wells cannot be turned on and off, and they would be damaged if they are forced to shut down, incurring costly repairs.

The thing that keeps coming into my mind about the WHCD incident is that scene in THE HUNGER GAMES where Katniss scandalizes the Capital by throwing a spear into the press box during the scouting session. Look, we're all here to have a good time at The Murder Games but she could've hurt someone!
