Loving this record. (Thx to
@bourgwick.bsky.social
for the rec) However it is having the side effect of making me really miss jamie branch. Got what a talent and a soul. Was gonna say gone too soon, but part of me is glad they’re not in a body on earth at this particular moment.

Steve Silberman is so pissed about this Tylenol bullshit that he's screaming from the afterlife he didn't even believe in. Increased rates of autism are due to testing, a broadened definition, and greater awareness. It's not vaccines. It's not Tylenol. It's like his work never happened.

The most utopian thing I can imagine at this point is a strictly segregated media environment of propaganda slop and the people who don't mind it (nobody likes it) and then an entirely separate economy of people who actually like reading, listening to music, watching films etc.

There’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people to build on the rubble of what’s being destroyed before our eyes. Private corporations bending over to forcefeed everyone government-approved speech is evil and amoral, but more than anything this creates boring, inauthentic, unwatchable shit.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

a key reason they see an opening for such a blatant speech crackdown is that they already did one to Palestinian and anti-genocide activists and it got enthusiastic bipartisan approval

to my mind the woman who dies of sepsis because of antiabortion laws, or the person who dies because they can't afford insulin -- these are just as much victims of political violence as the man shot through the throat while making a racist speech

My favorite My Morning Jacket record, 'It Still Moves,' was released OTD in 2002, so I was like, hey, why not share my ranking of MMJ songs. Feels like it makes sense.

Gotta be either Katmandu or Small Town for me. This is based more on ubiquity on classic rock radio at a time in my life when I listened to the radio a lot than on pure quality (I'm sure there are worse songs out there). But I just find both of these songs revolting.

Big ups to whoever in my timeline recommended this album. This track in particular has got me. Killer trancey desert rock over a groove that goes from sounding like a sick late 70's Diana Ross track to a metal assault to a droning fade back into the disco beat.
