Politics & whiskey—moderation in neither
When I tell people that I don’t use rideshare AT ALL because it’s unsafe, they look at me like I’m crazy. I don’t know how much I have to shout about reports like this until people realize they should use transit and taxis.

I want less public engagement, not more. Out here in CA, the “community engagement” process is wrecked, and honestly disrupts the public good.

For the majority of trips a city can run on two wheels under human power. Statistic show that the vast majority of vehicle trips are under 3 miles. If London and Paris can do it, we can do it here in San Diego.

Voluntary outpatient treatment for those experiencing significant disability from psychosis is massively difficult. It’s not compassion to allow thousands of people with severe mental illness to languish on the streets.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing. All from his movies.

This happened in my city last week. Since it seems like the entire world is obsessing over the potential dangers of teens riding ebikes lately, I feel like a reminder is in order: drivers are far and away the greatest threat to your kid and everyone else on the road, and always will be.

For the last week & a half I’ve been in over a dozen medieval cities in Europe. All with densities in their center village from 4–6 stories. Literally attracting thousands of people for their character. To say mid rise development lacks character, is absurd. It’s all about design & how we interact.

It’s absurd that this event isn’t hosted along the many, many Metro lines in LA. It doesn’t even appear to be convenient by bus. What on earth are the organizers thinking? This is the anti-YIMBY urbanist vision. Why wasn’t it hosted in DTLA or another similarly dense hotel/transit/meeting location?

So many discourse about addressing enforced car dependency is like: - There is a problem. We should change things to fix it. - But the change you want is not how things are. - I know. That's why I said it should change. - But if we changed it in a way you didn't suggest, there might be a problem.

Given the state of the US military, this isn’t surprising in the least. Anyone with friends & loved ones in the military knows how fragile things are. It’s sickening to think the Feds wanted folks to keep driving on the freeway during this “show”

For decades, local control and CEQA (even for infill!) were treated as untouchable sacred cows. Until they weren’t. Even when it's unpopular, even when everyone is telling you it can't be changed, never stop pushing. You never know when the tide will turn in your favor.

, the biggest transit-oriented upzoning bill ever, we also passed a clean CEQA exemption for new multifamily infill housing. This is, bar none, the biggest year in state action on housing policy reform in California history. Not even close.
