Reward politicians for fighting and solidarity, punish them for seeking bipartisan solutions and abandoning marginalized people or any other appeasement strategy. Replace anyone who doesn't get on board. Repeat until we have driven every Republican and every other fascist from public life forever.

One proof: Any time any Democrat comes near to taking this tack, the papers are flooded with opinion pieces from Republican operatives advising Democrats that this course will be politically disastrous to them. It's like a coach warning the opposing team that touchdowns are terrible strategy.

Anyone who says that this is losing message needs to contend with the fact that it has been a winning message for at least 3 decades for Republicans. It is a politically unpopular thing for Democrats to say—among Republicans, because they know it wins. It's what everyone else is thirsty for.

Democrats need to begin with the truth: "My opponents' intent is destruction of the public good and theft and murder of the people who live here, which poisons even the few facts they get right; therefore, there's no point in finding common ground; we should seek only to oppose and defeat them."

One of the biggest blunders (when well-intentioned) and betrayals (when not) in Democratic rhetoric over the years is their impenetrable insistence that what voters respond to is somebody who begins by finding common ground with their opponent, no matter who that opponent is or what that ground is.
