Yeah, I think there is nothing that makes a unified currency a problem in principle (the US does it), but I think there are two fundamental problems 1. The ECB attitude is one, the Fed sees their responsibility to the United States as a whole (I think that is could be fixed though), but also

German politicians, naturally, prefer spending German money on the Germans, because they are the ones electing them, so they keep telling these morality tales about irresponsible southern politicians, which again makes it harder to actually do the economic integration that could make the euro work.

I’m with you on the cack-handedness of it all. AR process in its current form is abysmal. I know the leaks are extremely worrying, but best to wait until we get the full ‘gush’ then we can evaluate and respond properly. Hope all is good with you and the family.
