Day 30 - Dream. The final day of #sciartseptember. My long-term dream has always been to create a series of illustrated guides that would help identify the various jellies and jellyfish of the would. Creating illustrations like the ones below to accurately ID species.

News @ Urwelt-Museum Oberfranken (UMO) in Bayreuth: new ichthyosaur, Eurhinosaurus mistelgauensis, named today after UMO's prime excavation site, the Jurassic clay pit Mistelgau. @olorotitan.bsky.social beautifully reconstructed the to-be fossil on a belemnite battleground typical for the locality.

Photos from a program I taught at my library job about Slime and how animals and plants use mucus and mucilage for defense, movement, hunting, filter-feeding and other fun stuff. We also made slime from school glue, baking soda, and contact lens solution, but I didn’t get any photos of that.

Another Pride angler! This is the Needlebeard Angler, Neoceratias. Needlebeards completely lack the glowing lure of other anglers. Additionally, their jaws are covered with long teeth outside the mouths. It’s not known what they eat, but their teeth may act as a cage to catch gelatinous prey.

Another Pride anglerfish! Here’s the Wolftrap Angler, Thsumatichthys, with Trans Pride colors. Wolftraps, also called Wonderfish, have their glowing lures located on the roof of their mouths. They also have wide upper “lips” that can flip down to form a cage around prey lured into their mouth.
