Our local policies and state laws don’t leave a lot of room for common sense to prevail. They’re prescriptive and often overly broad. Which puts district staff in a horrible bind. Especially when they have been told at every turn their professional judgement can’t be trusted.

The crazy thing is patrons “believing” librarians are displaying harmful materials is not the legal threshold that must be meant for SB 412. Law enforcement and a judge would have to concur that the material meets the penal code definition of “harmful material.”
