To summarize: - Think about the underlying shape, not the literal pixels - Use carefully, use sparingly to not compromise appeal - Don't be afraid to "cheat" your shapes - These examples are guides, not law. Go with what feels right

As a test of these principles, here's a subpixel animation I did of Sonic crawling up 3 pixels. If we think about the shapes that make up the character without being super literal to the sprite, we can try to imagine how the character would look "resampled" at a half step.

Added inbetweens to the Sonic 1 walkcycle, but didn't want to sacrifice it's rhythm.
