People felt like Nintendo pulled a fast one on western gamers by giving them an easier, weirder SMB2 than the one Japan got. Also once SMB3 came out and was much more in line with the first, SMB2 became an oddball outlier along the lines of Zelda 2 and Castlevania II.

I'm curious as to why there was such a big stigma against Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) whenever the often repeated story of its origin is repeated. When I first started getting into retro games in the 2010s it seemed like there was an attempt to course correct the narrative via historical context.

I just learned that the inner spindle in Famicom Disk System Disk Cards were originally white but were changed to grey later on. From the years of collecting these disks I have never noticed this detail.

So just for the heck of it I decided to search up the N64 game in the VGHF's digital archive and found that the US release date of January 15, 2000 is incorrect. Wikipedia listed it under that date since 2011, but here are sources that shows the game coming out in July, specifically July 12, 2000.

I wouldn't be shocked if retailers start pushing hard on physical Nintendo games as a result of this. They are basically the only remaining player that is committed to physicals for the foreseeable future.

Huh, so they really went out of their way to update the title screen with new rights text for the Console Archives release of Bokosuka Wars.

As a heads up the .nes ROM files sourced from this console are floating around out there. The main Atari Flashback ROM with the menu currently only works in specific emulators like NintendulatorNRS but the individual game ROMs are more compatible. Have fun playing Atari on Nintendo.

⚠️Watch out for Famicom fakes!⚠️ I have recently been made aware of particular auction listings in Japan where counterfeit Famicom sample cartridges are sold. These items are presented as genuine prototype items but are actually retail carts with printed out labels slapped on them.

Whenever I watch Game Boy related videos online, without fail it's usually talked about implying this is all that the system has to offer.

Good video but shoutouts to the related Famidaily episode for also mentioning how someone could beat the game. Genuinely might be one of the few reviews of this game on YouTube to even mention this detail.

Been doing more comparisons on FamiWiki, and while I knew the Famicom version of Pac-Land was clunky, putting it next to the arcade original really puts into perspective the amount of compromises they made to make it work back in 1985. A shame the compromise included making the game less fun.

This Japanese animation ambassador has fumbled so many times in getting a successful English release, I will genuinely be shocked if it winds up working this time around. I wonder if the recent push in video game releases outside of Japan was a sign that they were wanting to try this again.

I may have impulse purchased a touch screen card reader display, got it for 12 bucks at a local Goodwill. It functions perfectly but you do need a computer to use it.

Sometimes I find it difficult to know what is considered notable to include in the legacy of something on FamiWiki, this is not one of those cases. Hard to really ignore this as when you bring this software up outside Japan odds are users will reference it as being a "mainline Super Mario game".

It's always the super popular well known games that sell for high numbers when graded but never the actual rare and expensive games that real collectors crave to own copies of.
