If their goal is to choke off economic advantages from the US’s university system it’s hard to think of a more effective way. Scientists and other academics come to the US to study— then stay in the US often via green cards, to start companies, do unique work, and contribute to the US economy.

I was asked to list any international people I would collaborate with in the next two years. I don’t even know where our science will go next month. Do these people have any fucking clue about how science works??!!

So sorry to hear this. Scientists are resilient—we are selected for the ability to deal with a lot of rejection—but we are watching the whole system collapse under intentional pressure. No one is coming to save science. If this makes you angry, organize, find your community, and act.

Gail's lab was right next to ours at UCSF (ie the Bargmann lab when I was a PD there) in one big open lab space. She was always kind and available to chat and had a great group of trainees. Amazing role model. RIP.

The worm community has lost a true legend with the passing of Don Moerman. Don's impact on C. elegans research is beyond measure. A friend to many of us here in MN, his work has been invaluable, contributing >5,400 strains (VC & DM) to the CGC, 20% of our collection!
