Our old apartment was on the Columbus Marathon route and seeing the lead runners come by so far ahead of the field was always so impressive. Running so fast in a way that still looked almost effortless despite our place being at like Mile 20.

This really echoes how I’ve come to feel about my finance career. I like all of the problem solving but am continually exposed to some of the most sociopathic people on earth who simply don’t have that voice in their head that says “no, I won’t do that” when it comes to ways to make more money.

As someone who used to work in the card industry, this is probably a bad sign but hard to judge in a vacuum. Reserve timing can be goofy. Some portion of the provision is tied to total portfolio size so acquisitions can cause big swings.

Now fully convinced lot of AI “adoption” is tied to executives telling their teams to “use AI or else” and the efficiency gains are very often marginal at best but there’s token burn so that’s what makes the executive look good.

Would love to know the split of business vs personal travel on something like this. Big companies with people flying constantly will eat a lot of fare increase because they don’t view it as discretionary. And on the personal side too, driving will often not be an option.
