I’ve never gotten to experience Vertigo on the monthly, but its legacy, influence, and Berger’s work have had a profound influence on the creators and comics I love. Perhaps more than anything else. This talent they’ve grabbed is impeccable, the best creators of the most creative moment in a decade.

I can’t believe that for nearly a year @danpgwatters.bsky.social and @cleanlined.bsky.social have been giving us this Bible of a Batman book. It’s just perfect, and this final arc is reframing everything that came before while being its own thing. Sherman is my favorite modern Batman artist now.

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and Di Giandomenico tell a hilariously dark spin on the Death of Superman that’s so much fun and just a little revolting. Had no idea what to expect heading into this one but I enjoyed the hell out of it!

@christophcondon.bsky.social, Daniel Noah, and @davechisholmcomics.com really take you into the zeitgeist of abduction stories. You’ve got that Condon Dialogue™️, a great story, and brilliant art—in page design and color. Really enjoyed this take on abductions, and the descriptions are gorgeous

@tatebrombal.bsky.social @thatjacobphillips.bsky.social and @pipmartin.bsky.social have put out a second flawless issue of unique, trying zombie comics. One of my favorite books of the year, this issue uses such a brilliant narrative device and makes you care so, so much for the undead. Loved it!

@denizcamp.bsky.social giveth and taketh away and giveth back. Cannot wait for two of the best comics of the decade to come back, missing the hell out of them and all of the magic @ericxyz.bsky.social and @javierrodriguez.bsky.social create. Such a great time to be a comics fan.

Really enjoyed Twilight Zone #1! You get those wonderful @danpgwatters.bsky.social one-liners of dialogue poetry, haunting art by @morganbeem.bsky.social, and some genuinely terrifying moments. Wonderful one-off storytelling. And, holy shit, you can hear Serling’s voice.

In spite of yesterday’s news, GA still kicks ass and is one of DC’s best titles. A great balance of @christophcondon.bsky.social’s perfect characterization, Montos’ gritty humanity, and this mystery. Some really wonderful anti-drug, pro-people stuff in this issue too. My pick of the week!

This book is such DC ridiculousness—I love it. @gregrucka.com and Scott are a team made in heaven, especially for this unconventional heist. This is maybe my favorite portrayal of Klarion ever, which is the highest of praise. And that’s true for just about every character in the book so far.

@jason-aaron.bsky.social continues to KILL it with this book, bringing the most Supermany Supes out of the negative space of the story. Brainiac is my favorite new villain in a while—so, so much fun and haunting. Every month reminds me why I love this title, I can’t wait to see the larger picture!

@mattfraction.bsky.social has a perfect characterization of Bruce, a wonderfully heartfelt story. @jorgejimenezart.bsky.social somehow leveled up even more for this project, my favorite of his renditions so far. Clayton Cowles deserves all the praise. Absolutely loved this #1, cannot wait for more!

@christophcondon.bsky.social and Montos do it again. Constantly amazed by how much space this book has for inventive action while also being dense with character elsewhere. Loved the pairing of physical/mental violence, Ollie handling it all his own way, and Roy just trying. Montos kicks ass.

I can’t even express how much I love the language of @denizcamp.bsky.social and @javierrodriguez.bsky.social’s AMM. Words and art working in perfect tandem to represent everything, nothing, and everyone. Camp’s descriptions of life events are so punchy, telling whole stories in a caption box or two💚

A random shout out to @comicpop.bsky.social for their entertaining, infectious, and honest love of comics. Nobody does it like Sal, and the rest of the group are so much fun. Easily the best non-comic entertainment in the industry, and I’m just thankful they exist!

One of the best #1s I’ve read. @tatebrombal.bsky.social and @thatjacobphillips.bsky.social are firing on all cylinders, perfectly executing the beginning of their brilliant story. It’s as haunting as it is charming, full of life when surrounded by death, and just damn good comics. Highly recommend.

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and @ffrancavilla.bsky.social have delivered a perfect single issue. It’s haunting, full of heart, and tilted the frame I’m reading the larger story through. This is a run I just can’t get enough of, every issue makes me want to reread the whole thing. So dense with ideas.

@christophcondon.bsky.social and the whole team are absolutely killing it with News From The Fallout. It’s got those great Condon characters paired with horrifying and gritty cartooning, gorgeous black and white with perfect lettering. It’s just damn good comics.

The most accurate, heart-wrenching portrayals of [SPOILER] caused by a feeling all-too familiar. Fuck. @denizcamp.bsky.social pulls you into the character, lets you understand how they can become spoiler, and then pulls them right out. @ericxyz.bsky.social deserves a round of applause for this one.

One of the kindest, most genuine-hearted people I know has Donna Troy in his top three characters. I’ve never had a problem with her, but never understood why he loves her so much. Thanks for helping me understand, @philjimeneznyc.bsky.social. Her loving strength lines each page, past and present.

There’s a scene in this issue that perfectly clocks the way Bruce thinks, which made me smile and wince and clench my back and tip my hat. Just an amazing book by an amazing team

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and Dani did Arkham City a few years ago, one of my favorite books. Somehow it’s taken me this long to read COFFIN BOUND. Because I’m dumb, I suppose. Absolutely floored by this wonderfully surreal and abstract story, such an enjoyable world with vibrant, surviving folks.

I hope none of this is a misrepresentation, but the unconditional empathy of @denizcamp.bsky.social’s work is something that’s been sticking with me. His work exudes this open-mindedness about people that’s absent but needed right now. It’s good to be reminded that folks are folks. Also, formalism:)

@danslott.bsky.social is clearly bursting with DC ideas and Albuquerque is executing them perfectly. Two issues in, teared up twice; Superman gets to me, and Dan Slott gets Superman. Oh, and the entire world’s changed overnight? Good thing none of us know anything about that. Loving this book!

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and Dexter Soy’s Nightwing run might be my favorite ongoing right now. This issue is a lot of why. Wild, bold new directions that, in retrospect, slot obviously into the story. A thoughtful web of capes v. all else. Perfect characterization of Dick and co. You know I know!

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and @cleanlined.bsky.social are proprietors of a pure kind of Batman, Gotham, and weirdo mystery. Every time I open an issue of this book I’m overtaken, every time I finish an issue I’m still stuck in it. Can’t wait to see what the myth of the Red Hood Gang is all about.

@denizcamp.bsky.social and @ericxyz.bsky.social are doing something special with ACE, and I think this issue gets to the core of that. Dumb comics fun wrapped around the most relevant and harmful parts of humanity, perfectly executed in thoughtful ways. Every issue is inventive and heart-breaking.

@christophcondon.bsky.social continues to be very good at telling Green Arrow stories. Maybe my favorite issue of the run so far, Montos is somehow even greater than usual. A wonderful take on Ollie and the complex web of morals in modern life, one of my favorite books right now. Can’t wait for more

@denizcamp.bsky.social & @javierrodriguez.bsky.social are creative geniuses and their mind control is very good. Camp is so ridiculously good at executing too-big ideas and Rodríguez is so wonderful at squeezing everything out of each page. Such a wonderful team, I loved this issue a whole lot.

@danpgwatters.bsky.social and @cleanlined.bsky.social are amazing. The perfect pairing of classic and modern, reminiscent of Grant and Breyfogle and every other Batman story. Huge thanks to the whole team for Batman stories that feel like Batman stories, we need them right now. It’s gonkers!

@christophcondon.bsky.social and Gegê Schall launched FAR DOWN BELOW today! Condon’s writing of life continues to be the best in the industry, Schall’s pencils perfectly capture the story’s spirit, and the larger situation has me very curious as to what’s coming. Can’t wait to dig deeper on this.

I’m still thinking about how amazing both Assorted Crisis Events #1 and Batman Dark Patterns #4 are. Really excited to see what people have to say about them…

DC seems to have embraced the bold strategy of just making cool as hell comics. Let’s see if it works out for them.
