i know it's basic but. societal black sheep who walk their own path regardless of the disdain they'll face whether due to their own choices or because they were completely rejected from any kind of belonging from the start. you are loved by me

read a little bit each day (sg reading streak going strong 🫡) buuut my attention span isn't always the best so i'm really only finishing 3-4 books a month

i think i had the luck of picking this up exactly when i needed it. i may not have been obsessed with the characters/plot enough for it to make an "all-timer" shelf but the themes hit me hard and made my reading experience with this the best i'd had in a long time

this isn't always true, because sometimes i like full stream of consciousness and really being in someone's head. it just depends on the book. but i definitely enjoy having CLUES to what a character is feeling in their outward reaction to things, rather than being told their feelings directly.

i do this intuitively in a first draft and then polish it in edits. something i've noticed recently is that books that use a further psychic distance more often intrigue me more. when i don't fully know what a character is thinking, i crave those moments of insight and feel rewarded when i get them.
