Never forget, Cameron's Tories brought Brexit because Farage's UKIP was taking a bite out of Tory polling. Without a care, Cameron & Cabinet bet the nation for Tory Party benefit; to the absolute disastrous detriment of the nation.

What will keep Britain "stuck in a permanent rut" is persisting with the failure of Brexit. Burnham may feel he has little choice in a Leave-voting constituency, but that was a decade ago, and he risks making the same mistake Labour made in the 2024 manifesto when they committed to Tory pledges.

If a candidate cannot talk about this in a Leave area, then that isn’t democracy. It’s Brexit authoritarianism. And no reputable media outlet should pander to that. If Burnham runs scared in Makerfield, is he fit to be PM? Is anyone fit if they can’t take on the Brexit shitshow?

Backing Rejoin isn't odd when you consider that: - Brexit is estimated to have hit GDP per capita by 6-8% - The US has embraced protectionism and the UK is being squeezed between rival power blocs - 55% of voters back Rejoin, including 80% of Labour supporters, with just 33% opposed (YouGov)

Under a mechanism known as the Dublin Convention, the British government could previously ask fellow EU nations to take people back if they had passed through safe countries en route to the UK -that ended with Brexit & no alternative was agreed making it far more difficult to return any new arrivals
