Watching news today brings a joke to mind. Chap stops at newstand every day. Scans the front cover of all the newspapers but never buys one. One day the seller asks him why. "I'm looking for an obituary." "But sir, the obituaries are towards the back of the papers." "Not the one i'm looking for"

No reply from Sir Paul Nurse or the Royal Society to this, one week after I sent it.

I think the Royal Society is right to have a Code of Conduct that Fellows are expected to observe - it must, after all, look after its own reputation. What I don't understand is why the Royal Society itself doesn't seem to care about that.

In light of the Royal Society's continued inaction on Elon Musk, it seems appropriate to share this again. I wrote it last March when I resigned my position as associate editor at a Royal Society Journal. Things haven't got better since then.

very disappointing. There is a code of conduct for Royal Society fellows - it's not a value judgement to say that Musk has contravened it! see relevant bits of code and the Royal Society stated values below.

Paul Nurse, interviewed by the FT about whether @royalsociety.org should expel Musk said: "the institution should only expel fellows if their science proved “faulty or fraudulent or highly defective”". That implies the Society's Code of Conduct is utterly meaningless.
