This report recommends that Port Authority take more regional responsibility for the bus system. The case seems somewhat sound, but there's nothing in it about expanding the current XBL or adding new ones at GWB or Holland Tunnel. PA could already do that now - right?

Absolutely ridiculous way to do enforcement. MTA should never delay a bus to do fare enforcement. "The agencyâs fare enforcement âEAGLEâ teams are ramping up an initiative where they halt buses for about five to 10 minutes while they scan ridersâ phones or OMNY cards to check if they paid."

One thing that stuck with me about Michael Lewis's "The Fifth Risk" is the chapter about the civil servants at the Department of Energy whose job it is to track the movement of nuclear materials and equipment around the globe. Wonder if anyone is answering the phones at DOE these days.

It's hilarious to see the Trump administration ooh and ahh over Houston's 26-lane Katy Freeway. TxDOT spent $2.8 billion widening the highway in 2011, and afterward traffic got *worse*. (Source:

A final point: Itâs naĂŻve to assume cities will be able to regulate AVs on their streets. In the US, states have preempted cities on AVs, and now the feds want to preempt states. The UK gov is pushing robotaxis on London. Those who care about urban life have ample reason to be alarmed.
