Hennepin County’s proposed layout for Lyndale Avenue S. falls short. It’s not a people-first design. It’s a decorated, street-level parking lot, dusted with the occasional confetti of mode shift virtue signals. No protected bikeways, 24/7 bus lanes, or green space throughout the entire corridor.

Underrated part of Gold and B Line openings is how easy it is to get around downtown St. Paul now. Walk from my office to Lost Fox is a little long to squeeze into the workday(30 min round trip), but can usually make it 15 min by hopping on whichever of the B/Green/Gold Line is arriving next.

After a 20 min delay, just watched my bus get caught at the light a block away for two cycles by cars blocking the lane. Good amount of the traffic were giant pickup trucks seemingly on their way to the Post Malone show. Felt like a simulation meant to piss me off as much as possible.

With 3 of 6 bike bridges set to be closed simultaneously this summer, + the completion of Hennepin/1st bikeways on the east side of the river, there’s never been a better time for the County to plop down some jersey barriers to protect riders in the dangerous Hennepin/1st bridge bike lanes!

This problem extends far beyond Minnesota. Across the country, state DOT models ignore induced demand in their highway widening proposals. It's debatable whether they're being deceitful or just ignorant. Either way, their models are wrong.

Commute home on the 94 express bus this evening. Gorgeous, frigid night in Minneapolis.

Not a single seat empty, multiple people standing on westbound 94 express right now, while the eastbound lane is backed up for miles due to a car crash. Glad we are cool with this status quo MNDOT.

On the one hand, banning right on red is a proven way to save lives and reduce injuries. On the other hand, drivers are delayed by a few seconds. So it’s impossible to say if it’s good or not.

RIP Bob Uecker man, so many memories listening to Ueck growing up. Used to watch the Brewers in the garage with my dad, listening to a delay radio instead of the tv broadcast. Yard work during the summer meant listening to Ueck calling the Brewers on a boombox. A goddamn legend.

The War on Cars might finally be here folks. Banana peels in two separate bike lanes this morning. Drivers have come out of the gates swinging.

Reading the Power Broker rn and learning about Robert Moses’ highways that were supposed to ease congestion becoming clogged with traffic immediately is really driving home how MNDOT is dropping the ball on Rethinking 94. Urban highways have created traffic, not reduced it, for 80 years now.

Throughout this whole process, I have yet to hear MnDOT acknowledge induced demand or how rebuilding the freeway as is continues to incentive suburban sprawl. MnDOT is only analyzing vehicle throughput and not how this decision will affect the fabric of the metro for the next 60 years. Insanity.

Dogwood’s NE location is one of my fav coffee shops in the city, but god is it terrifying to get there on a bike. Have to ride on either Broadway or Central at some point. Would go there way more often if I didn’t have to do that.

Sitting in a busy coffee shop thinking about how Shoup’s 85% principle could be used to charge for seating at the busiest times to ensure there is always a spot available when I want one. Whatever the opposite of car-brain is, I think I’m pretty much there *Do not take this idea seriously lol*

Crazy how much having a ground-level retail presence at Dayton’s makes that part of Nicollet Mall feel more welcoming. Skyways have completely stolen our street life downtown and it sucks that Dayton’s will only have ground-level retail for the holidays.

Heinous #1 song lol but otherwise valid. Audit busy season last spring was working 55 hour weeks, consuming 400 mg of caffeine per day, and just spinning Baby Girl on repeat. Really glad to not be auditing going into next year lol

Mpls has 1,000 miles of streets. As drivers, we can drive on ~999 miles of city streets w/ relative safety, comfort & efficiency AND the urban highways that cut through the city. Yet some drivers act like it is a war on cars to modify a tiny % of streets to safely accommodate all modes. 1/2

Why? Why stick to rush hour service when rush hour fares are being dropped, when people's work schedules have shifted, when transit doesn't need to match 9-5 biz hours any more? This is so dumb; and is just representative of the city's half-assed commitment to transit. Jesus christ, Minneapolis.

Peak rush hour in the new bus lanes on E Hennepin and First Ave NE. Give drivers an inch and they take a mile. Should’ve never been downgraded from full-time lanes.
